Unshaven Operations with DHI Hair Transplant Method and Choi Pen Technique

DHI Hair Transplantation

Today, hair transplantation procedures are performed with various methods. The reasons for choosing these methods may vary according to the region to be planted and the person's request. Currently actively used methods are DHI (CHOI PEN), FUE Hair Transplant, (MICRO FUE, SAFİR FUE, PERCUTANEOUS FUE). Apart from these, the FUT method, which is a very old method, is no longer used.

Let's explain the method, which used to be known as pencil hair transplantation technique, and now called DHI Hair Transplantation (direct hair implant). First of all, it should be noted that in the DHI method, hair follicle transfers are made with implanter pens called choi pen. The two are not different treatment methods. One is the name of the method and the other is the name of the material used in the method.

DHI Hair Transplantation Method

This method first appeared in Kyungpok National University. Here, this process was first applied to the straight and thick hair characteristic and success was achieved. However, success has not been achieved in people with curly, wavy and fine hair structure. Later, choi pens were produced with slightly wider diameters and made suitable for use in general hair types. The thickness of the choi pens, which are actively used today, varies between 0.8 mm - 1.2 mm according to the hair thickness. Choi pen generally works with the principle of a push pen, and there is a needle tip similar to 21G x ½ thickness and size, and inside this needle tip there is a metal that presses and places the root into the tissue. At the tip of this needle, there is a thin flat strip of space that allows the hair follicle to be placed.

Pre-operative procedures in the DHI method are similar to other hair transplantation methods. Before the operation, a blood test is performed by taking about 10cc of blood from the person. In addition, hair treatment is applied with some of the blood taken after the procedure. The procedure is first applied by choosing the right local anesthesia method for the person, and the hair follicle is prepared for the stage.

In the DHI method, hair follicles are taken from the donor area by Follicular Unit Extraction method. The parts up to this point are actually similar to other hair transplantation methods. However, it differs from normal planting techniques in the following stages.

Hair follicles taken from the donor area are placed into the choi pen with the help of a special forceps without damaging them, and the hair follicle taken from the donor area becomes suitable for transfer to the area in need. This stage is actually the most critical stage of the DHI method. Because if the hair follicle to be transplanted is damaged during placement in the choi pen, even if all the remaining procedures are performed with one hundred percent efficiency, there will be a problem in hair growth. Therefore, it is very important that experts in the field do the procedures while applying the DHI method.

The Difference of DHI Hair Transplantation from Other Methods

The most important feature that distinguishes the DHI method from other hair transplantation methods is; It is the simultaneous opening of the canal and the planting of the roots. In all other hair transplantation methods, after the hair follicles are taken from the donor area, they are not transferred directly to the needed area. In order for this transfer process to take place, micro incisions are made in the area needed, in other words, a channel is opened. Afterwards, hair follicles are placed in these opened channels. These two stages are done in a single stage in the DHI method. While the tip of the Choi pen is making the incision on the skin, the transfer of the hair follicle is performed. In fact, this method can be considered as an improved version of the percutaneous grooving technique. In the percutaneous channel opening process, the channels where the hair follicles will be placed are opened with a tip similar to the tip of the choi pen. In the next stage, hair transplantation takes place. The number and frequency of hair follicles to be transplanted in the DHI method may vary according to the needs of the person. The angle of the hair to be transplanted is primarily determined by looking at the angle of the existing hair, and it is shown as special for processing at values between 30 and 40 degrees, where they will create a balance.
